Your role and responsibilities

The Senior Data Strategist at Cloudability owns the vision, architecture, and quality of Cloudability s multi-cloud cost and utilization data. You ll define how we ingest, normalize, transform, and model billing data from AWS, Azure, GCP, and emerging sources (Kubernetes, FOCUS, on-prem, third party SaaS/PaaS). This role combines hands-on technical work—writing SQL, debugging data pipelines, validating schemas—with strategic thinking about data architecture that enables Fin Ops insights, AI-driven analytics, and customer reporting.

You ll partner closely with data engineering, product managers, and data science to ensure our data foundation is consistent, high-quality, and scalable.

Required technical and professional expertise

Must Have

  • 4-6+ years in data-focused roles (analytics engineering, data engineering, data architecture, or technical product management)

  • Direct hands-on work with cloud billing data from AWS, Azure or GCP

  • Experience building or maintaining data models used by downstream analytics or reporting systems

  • Track record solving complex data quality or normalization challenges

Technical Skills

Strategic & Business Skills

  • Strategic thinking — Ability to define multi-year vision for data architecture and anticipate future needs

  • Problem decomposition — Break down ambiguous problems into structured, actionable technical requirements

  • Business acumen — Understand how data decisions impact customer value and business outcomes; prioritize based on impact

  • Requirements translation — Convert business needs into clear data model specifications

Collaboration Skills

  • Cross-functional partnership — Work effectively with engineering, product, and data science teams

  • Clear communication — Explain complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders; write clear documentation

  • Influence without authority — Drive technical decisions and alignment across teams

  • Comfort with ambiguity — Thrive in situations where ownership boundaries aren t perfectly clear.

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Experience in Fin Ops, cloud cost management, or observability platforms

  • Multi-cloud environment experience—practical understanding of challenges unifying AWS/Azure/GCP data

  • Exposure to data quality monitoring, schema evolution, or data testing frameworks

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with FOCUS (Fin Ops Cost and Usage Specification) schema

  • Experience with AI/ML data pipelines

  • Background in Fin Ops practices or Fin Ops Foundation certification
