Overview
Salesforce is looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join Salesforce’s Network Engineering team. This team facilitates the deployment of strategic initiatives mainly focused on network patching, routing, switching and load-balancing function of Salesforce’s 1P network infrastructure. This position requires onsite presence at the Bellevue office.
Responsibilities- Plan, design, develop, implement and operate Cisco, Juniper, F5 (LTM, GTM) and other network appliances serving Salesforce’s internal and external applications.
- Work closely with automation teams in defining and developing tools that allow us to manage the configuration of network equipment (F5, Cisco, Juniper, etc) in Cloud Scale datacenters.
- Develop and maintain scripts/power-tools based on Ansible and Python to assist with configuration deployment on different kinds of network equipment (Cisco, F5, Juniper, etc).
- Drive service ownership for the Network Engineering teams; assist in efforts to streamline problem and organizational change processes and increase automation.
- Provide network escalation support for internal and external service impairments or outages.
- Perform high-level troubleshooting and analysis to determine the root cause when network outages occur during network maintenances.
- Isolate hardware and software problems on network devices and work with vendors to resolve issues as vital.
- Assist in mitigating security vulnerabilities in OS and configuration across different network vendors (Cisco, F5, Juniper, etc).
- Perform proactive network maintenance, such as code upgrades, config updates and cleanup/decoms on various network devices such as switches, routers and load-balancers.
- Work collaboratively with engineering teams to identify ways to proactively improve network stability and decrease potential for future outages.
- Ensure documented processes are followed while providing necessary feedback focused on safety and agility of the processes involved.
- 5+ years of experience with TCP/IP networking, architecture and core technologies, such as BGP, OSPF, ISIS, DNS, HTTP, etc.
- Working knowledge and experience in a Unix/Linux environment.
- Proven proficiency in scripting/programming with Python, Golang, Perl, etc.
- Demonstrated experience with developing and using Ansible tools (CLI and Playbooks) to manage network equipment of various makes/models.
- Practitioner-level network automation skills using Dev Ops and CI/CD pipeline practices.
- Demonstrated experience with the usage of version control tools such as Git.
- Working knowledge of protocol analysis tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, ping, netstat.
- Experience deploying and leading large-scale distributed network environments with focus on automation.
- Working knowledge of PKI infrastructure, firewalls and access-list configuration and troubleshooting as well as experience in system performance methodologies along with hands-on empirical monitoring and data-driven decision-making.
- Strong analytical approach to problem-solving and ability to fix complex issues quickly, while prioritizing multiple priorities.
- Must work well as part of a team in a high-energy environment; good written and verbal communication skills and good time-management abilities.
- A related technical degree required.
- Experience with F5 GTM and LTM installation, engineering, administration, and life cycle management including advanced iRules and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of load balancing options & features including Persistence, SSL client/server profiles, HTTP profiles.
- Highly skilled in packet analysis, network analysis tools, troubleshooting, and analytical fault diagnosis.
