This position will be required to work Central or Eastern Time Zone hours.

The Senior Underwriter underwrites mortgage loan applications - evaluating loans to determine credit risk. Minimizes risk and loss, as well as ensuring eligibility for sale to the secondary market. Reviews property appraisal to determine acceptability of collateral.

• Underwrite FHA, VA, USDA, and Conventional loans, including evaluation of property and appraisal.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to Loan Coordinators (processors) and fellow underwriters.
• Provide back-up underwriting to other underwriters within the department, as necessary.
• Assist Loan Officers and Loan Coordinators with borrower qualifying scenarios.
• Keep current on FHA/VA/USDA/Conventional changes and underwriting guidelines.
• Proficient in underwriting automated systems: LP, DU, GUS, & others.
• Assist in clearing underwriting conditions and meeting doc draw, funding, and lock dates.
• All functions shall be conducted in a manner keeping with the spirit and intent of EHL’s Guiding Values, Balanced Stewardship, and Convictions.
• Responsible for proactive communication with management, operations, and production, with respect to challenges or opportunities on loan files.
• Promptly respond to Quality Control Audits from internal departments as well as outside agencies.
• Ability to problem solve and seek solutions to challenges that arise during the underwriting of a loan.
• Adhere to applicable agency, investor, and internal credit and property guidelines.
• Provide turn-times that meet or exceed company expectations/Service Level Agreements.
• Provide continuous customer service to all loan production staff.

• Provide a “WOW” experience and effectively communicate with associates, clients, partners, and vendors via phone, written communication and/or in person.

  Host regular and timely communication with associates and Manager.
• Be willing to assume additional responsibilities/duties/projects as they arise.
• Have strong organization skills, the ability to learn quickly, and accuracy/timeliness in completing tasks.
• Perform all actions in accordance with policies and procedures of the company.
• Expected to meet productivity guidelines of the position.
• Effectively use software specific for the position and Microsoft office products.
• Work well with other members of the EHL team and be willing to fill in when needed.

• High School Graduate or equivalent
• Minimum 5+ years mortgage Underwriter in all aspects of FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional lending
• Must possess current government certifications in FHA CHUMS, VA LAPP & SAR, & USDA + Conventional loans
• Good knowledge of property appraisal standards and what minimum property requirements of given loan types and investors
• Exercise good judgment and strong character, motivated, hard working.
• Ability to work well with fellow associates, clients and vendors.
