Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Senior Tax Accountant!
About the roleIn this role you will be supporting Symetra’s state and local tax compliance, as well as doing tax accounting, research, and special projects.
What you will do- Prepare state income and other direct tax returns using the Corp Tax platform.
- Prepare state indirect tax returns including sales/use tax, excise tax, and other miscellaneous tax filings.
- Support departmental tax transformation projects to increase efficiency across all tax compliance efforts.
- Assist the tax team with federal compliance efforts.
- Prepare work papers and calculations to support generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)/Statutory accounting (STAT) income tax provisions.
- Collaborate outside the tax department with collecting and reviewing tax critical compliance data.

Salary Range: $79,900 - $133,200 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.
Who You Are- High School Diploma is required, plus a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Accounting or related field
- 5+ year’s experience in an income tax role, preferably with state tax experience.
- A working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of US domestic taxation, especially US income tax and state income, franchise, and privilege taxes.
- Ability to take a project management approach to stay organized and keeping compliance efforts on schedule.
- Good decision making and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to be innovative, creative, and think critically in resolving issues and improving systems.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- Strong familiarity with tax compliance software and research databases, with the ability and desire to look at innovative options in technology.
