The Childbirth/Perinatal Educator provides instruction and support on topics relevant to parents during the childbearing years and throughout the family/parenting process.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ensures effective instruction
• Assesses needs of class members at the beginning, middle, and end of each series or class; ensures curriculum is evidence‑based, learner‑centered, culturally sensitive, and effective
• Follows curriculum outline when teaching, with adaptations to meet expressed and/or assessed learner needs
• Selects teaching method appropriate to learning styles, needs of class members, and curriculum objectives
• Utilizes AV equipment and materials proficiently
• Works independently at an off‑site classroom location
• Serves as hospital resource and liaison to parents
• Provides information about Overlake’s Women’s and Infant Services (WS) consistent with current policies and procedures
• Encourages informed decision‑making and facilitates referrals to appropriate programs and services
• Prompts and documents class reunions and gathers ongoing program and service assessment feedback
• Maintains documentation and records, including class information and attendance records, patient teaching documentation, supplies inventory, and pertinent information for coordination and quality assurance
• Adheres to Overlake’s policies, preserves confidentiality, and maintains professional growth, attending mandated education and in‑service offerings
• Acts as preceptor for new hires in accordance with policy and procedure

Education:

High school graduate required.

Professional Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Must meet one of the following levels of experience and/or credentials:

• Current Washington State or Multistate RN license with one year of experience in childbirth education or completed coursework
• Current Washington State LPN with one year of experience in childbirth education or completed coursework
• Certification: ASPO/Lamaze, ICEA, or CBE one‑year certification through accredited college
• Enrolled in ASPO/Lamaze, ICEA, or CBE one‑year certification at an accredited college plus minimum one year adult education experience; must pass certification within two years of hire
• Two years of experience as a childbirth or lactation educator

Posted pay range represents the entire pay scale. For multiple levels, the range reflects the minimum of the lowest level and the maximum of the highest level. Pay may vary with shift, certification, or education level. Salary offers are based on experience and internal equity.
