  • Monitor entrance screening stations and conduct screening (e.g. x-ray scanners, metal detectors, visual detection, other security practices) of incoming persons and packages.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
  • Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
  • Detect and confiscate weapons or contraband and detain the individual(s) advising supervisor.
  • Enforce federal, state, and local laws/regulations and adhere to Sheriff’s protocols.
  • Provide armed watch over Entrance Screening Officer (ESO) I’s performing screening duties and lethal force presence/option.
  • Enforce the disposal or containment of legal but inappropriate items (e.g. pocket knife) prior to entry.
  • Respond to questions and provide information/directions to locations (e.g. courtrooms).
  • Render immediate first aid and/or cardio/pulmonary measures summoning medical personnel and notifying sworn supervisor.
  • Assist with emergencies (e.g. fires, fire alarms, weather related emergencies, bombs or bomb threats, disturbances, mentally ill persons, other threatening or exigent situation).
  • Provide service to the public and employees in a professional, helpful manner.
  • Report hazardous, threatening, suspicious, potentially dangerous occurrences to sworn supervisor(s).
  • Become familiar with the laws of the State of Nebraska, ordinances of the City of Omaha, rules of the 4th Judicial District Court, and other pertinent rules, laws, or regulations pertaining to security operations at the Hall of Justice, Civic Center and Justice Center.
  • Prepare and maintain various records, reports and other department documents (e.g. Daily Activity Logs).
  • Operate a two-way radio maintaining communication with departmental employees advising of a security breech, disturbance, potentially dangerous situation, or other threatening or exigent circumstance.
  • Read and adhere to departmental General Orders.
  • Maintain job knowledge and skills (e.g. training, seminars, webinars, meetings, conferences, continuing education).
  • Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.*
  • Graduation as a law enforcement officer from a state law enforcement academy required. Individuals may also be eligible if they have worked in an armed law enforcement capacity for a minimum of one (1) year either with a Federal Law Enforcement entity or with the Armed Forces.
  • Completion of all qualifying certifications with an approved firearm, and recertification on a semi-annual basis with qualification of at least a 70% (unless otherwise specified) on the prescribed course of fire.
  • Basic life support/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS/CPR) certification within six (6) months of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
  • Defensive Tactics course and Electronic Control Devices course and maintained throughout employment required.
  • Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check, conditional drug screen and physical assessment.
  • * Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.
