The Technical Support Clerk provides first‑level technical support for the police department’s information systems, ensuring reliable access to mission‑critical law enforcement applications. The position supports sworn officers and civilian staff while maintaining strict compliance with Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and departmental regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Assist IT Sergeant and Commander with tasks as directed.
- Assist Technical Support Specialists as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive, classified, or criminal justice information at all times.
- Log, track, and update support tickets with accurate details and resolutions. Maintain technical documentation, user guides, and support records.
- Escalate unresolved technical issues to higher‑level support staff.
- Answer telephones, directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Assist with equipment inventory.
- Follow established IT policies, procedures, and security standards.
- Complete invoices, vouchers, standard forms, applications, and work orders. Maintain asset tracking database to ensure accurate inventory.
- Operate copying machine, mobile data computer, telephone, or other office machines as required.
- Assist other department personnel designated by the supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITY- Ability to pass a thorough background investigation.
- Experience in using a variety of computer systems, hardware, and software packages.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all department documents, records, and reports.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a law enforcement or public safety environment preferred.
- Ability to obtain certification from the Nebraska Criminal Information Justice System within six months of hire or as training is available.

Work is generally performed indoors in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for long periods of time at a computer. The employee is frequently required to speak clearly and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands (to finger, handle or feel), reach with hands and arms, stoop, and kneel.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move office and other departmental supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work may be stressful at times due to deadlines and multiple projects. The individual regularly works at a computer screen, which may cause eyestrain.
