About KYTC Division of Driver Licensing:
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is a very diverse state agency that directly touches the lives of citizens and travelers every day. KYTC services are at work in all 120 counties and 12 highway district offices covering highways, roads, bridges, vehicle licensing, driver licensing, and highway safety. Kentucky’s DDL works closely with other state agencies, other states, and federal government agencies.
Recently, the Department of Homeland Security enacted federal rules for “Real ” issuance and record‑keeping. KYTC must enact these rules to issue federally compliant driver licenses before October 2020.
To meet the increased demand, DDL has an immediate need for exceptional individuals to join our organization as Driver License Support Specialists. This opportunity is based in Frankfort, KY at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The rollout of a new digitized license computer system across the state will require travel to issuance locations throughout the state. The ideal candidate should have strong communication and critical thinking skills.
The successful candidates must be a self‑starter and possess the ability to learn and execute the Division’s plan for these tasks. They must also be accountable to team members for their work and decisions. They must be able to work overtime, especially through the next 14 months. In this position, there will be opportunities for advancement within the Division of Driver Licensing and KYTC.
Driver License Support Specialists will assist the Director’s office and Branch Managers. The main focus of this project will be to learn the current driver licensing issuing process and play key training and leadership roles to train employees across the state on the new digitized driver license issuance requirements and DDL state and federal rules, which include REAL , Commercial Driver License, and National Driver Register.
The successful candidates will review and analyze secure documents of driver‑license applicants and personal information. They must pass federal fingerprint checks and conduct themselves professionally with employees and citizens. They will train other employees on the new issuance process, conduct meetings, participate on conference calls, and compile data and reports for managers.
- Must be a good writer with sufficient grammar
- Must have very good communication skills
- Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Product Suite (Microsoft Word & Excel)
- Must be task‑oriented and a self‑starter with good organizational skills
- Candidate should have customer service experience serving both internal and external customers
- Candidate must be able to work well with others in a team environment, assisting them as needed
- Candidate must be able to balance end‑of‑day reports, including handling of cash
- Candidate must become very knowledgeable of Driver Licensing laws and policies
- Candidate must be able to learn and utilize the KY Driver’s License Information System (KDLIS)/IDEMIA issuance program and read and interpret a driver’s history record
- Candidate will process complex applications by screening all original documents presented
- Candidate must learn Commercial Driver Licensing laws and licensing processes
- Candidate must have a high level of accountability
- Candidate must be able to inspire and lead others through their enthusiasm
- Must possess interpersonal skills required to work with many different clients
- Must be professional, supportive, diplomatic, flexible, and responsible
- Must be able to travel frequently throughout the work week all around the state
- Should be a graduate of high school or have a GED
- Assist the Director’s office and Branch Managers with project‑related activities
- Be present and available for travel
