Job Overview

Under the direction of the Lead Technologist and/or Radiologist, performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative in utilization of radionuclides for the diagnosis and therapy of disease in humans. Participates in and exhibits good Medical Center and Radiology guest relations.

Essential Functions
  • Checks charts for orders on all procedures requested on inpatients and follow up as needed to clarify questions.
  • Correctly complies with all national patient safety goals and risk reduction procedures and associated policies as applicable to scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates good communication skills. Will ensure proper chain of communication during call hours to avoid a breakdown in the system.
  • Develops film by automatic processing.
  • Knowledge of basic First Aid procedures to be administered as needed.
  • Knows proper positioning and technical factors that meet all criteria for quality radiographs.
  • Maintains adequate records of radioisotope receipt, usage, storage and disposal in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Maintains other records as directed.
  • Maintains the department in a contamination free and orderly state, including restocking supplies to avoid unnecessary delays.
  • Makes decision based on good judgement and patient condition to best service Medical Staff and patient.
  • Manages time and procedural performance to meet needs of the department. This includes a good working knowledge of patient procedural prioritization in order to expedite scheduling of daily requests to minimize delays in completion and maintaining the workflow that is required to meet requests for procedural completion in the department.
  • Performs calibration and assay of equipment and material in a manner to avoid unnecessary delays in the completion of procedures.
  • Performs daily duties in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Performs radionuclide procedures on patients inclusive of organ imaging, function studies, and assisting the physician in the therapeutic use of nuclides under the prescribed safety rules.
  • Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients, performing all Q.C. measures to allow optimal safety and imaging of the patient.
  • Properly prepares patients for Nuclear Medicine studies. Interviews patients and reviews records for all necessary information needed before study. Uses 2 patient identifiers before initiating procedures.
  • Provides for basic care and comfort needs of the patient.
  • Provides protection to oneself and others in accordance with A.L.A.R.A. and D.P.A rules and regulations.
  • Seeks guidance and direction, as appropriate, for completion of procedures requested by Medical Staff.
  • Uses appropriate aseptic techniques in the preparation and administration of all material utilized in the area of Nuclear Medicine.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology Program.
  • Must hold a valid State of New Jersey License and be registered by the A.R.R.T. or the N.M.T.C.B.
  • Maintains required BLS Heart Saver/Health Care Provider course completion status.
  • Successful completion of orientation.
