Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park‑like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

Responsible for managing daily operations (equipment, workflow, service levels, procedures) and staff (first‑level supervision, scheduling, coaching, staff development, etc) within regulatory requirements.

• Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
• Supervises laboratory activities to ensure that procedures are performed promptly, accurately, and precisely according to department and hospital policies and procedures.
• May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
• Schedules staff and assigns work to ensure that laboratory procedures are performed promptly, proficiently, and accurately. (When necessary the supervisor is expected to perform tasks routinely assigned to direct reports.)
