Our client in the automotive manufacturing sector is seeking a Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist is responsible for implementing, managing, and continuously improving workplace Health, Safety, Environmental, and Ergonomics programs to ensure regulatory compliance and foster a strong safety culture within a manufacturing environment.
Location:
Belleville
- Implement and maintain Health & Safety, Environmental, and Ergonomic policies in compliance with federal, provincial, and internal standards
- Lead H&S, Environmental, and Ergonomic inspections, audits, and corrective action plans
- Manage environmental compliance activities including HWIN, waste manifests, NPRI, TRA, and ECA applications and reporting
- Administer WSIB claims, lost time statistics, Form 7 submissions, SIEF applications, objections, and follow-ups
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and health hazards; analyze root causes and recommend preventive measures
- Conduct regular workplace inspections across all departments and track corrective actions
- Act as a liaison with the Company Nurse to support modified work programs and disability management
- Coordinate Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings, inspections, documentation, and reporting
- Arrange and deliver in-house Health, Safety, Environmental, and Ergonomic training programs
- Maintain and update SDS systems, safety databases, training matrices, and compliance documentation
- Source, vet, and manage vendors related to PPE, safety equipment, and environmental services
- Serve as point of contact for security services and related investigations
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives and promote a proactive safety-first culture
- Collaborate cross-functionally, including providing support and training within Human Resources when required
- Undergraduate degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Studies, or a related field (preferred)
- 5+ years of progressive Health & Safety experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario OHSA, CSA standards, environmental regulations, WSIB, and related reporting obligations
- Demonstrated experience managing audits, inspections, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proven ability to work independently while also influencing and leading within cross-functional teams
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to coach, facilitate, and drive cultural and behavioral change in the workplace
