Are you fascinated by proteins, fermentation and the idea of making cheese without cows? Do you enjoy hands‑on lab work and solving bioprocess puzzles? Saddle up, you might be the new Research Associate joining our team!

At Those Vegan Cowboys, we’re building the cheese of the future with the help of microbes. To support our mission, we’re looking for a Research Associate who will split their time between our Fermentation and Purification teams, jumping in where the needs are greatest and helping move our protein production pipeline forward.

• Run microbial fermentations in 15 L bioreactors and scale up to 300 L pilot runs; the heart of our recombinant protein production
• Perform product recovery experiments using a variety of downstream unit operations
• Design and execute purification experiments to optimize recovery and polishing of recombinant proteins
• Perform analytical assays such as SDS‑PAGE, UPLC and Bradford to characterize and quantify purified proteins
• Collect, analyze and interpret experimental data – translating the data into clear reports, protocols and SOPs
• Present your findings and discuss results with colleagues through meetings, reports and emails
• Collaborate closely with both the Fermentation and Purification teams to ensure experiments run smoothly
• Keep lab equipment and documentation in excellent shape
• Actively contribute to a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent relevant experience
• Experience with protein purification from microbial fermentation (MF, UF, TFF, precipitation)
• Prior experience in bioprocess development or biomanufacturing
• Familiarity with food‑grade regulatory expectations is a plus
• Hands‑on experience with lab‑scale fermenters (Sartorius C‑DCU); pilot‑scale experience (Infors) is a bonus
• Able to work independently as well as in team
• Problem‑solving skills and an analytical mindset
• Flexible and comfortable switching between tasks in a dynamic environment
• A practical, proactive personality with natural curiosity
• Clear communicator with solid organizing skills; whether you’re interpreting data, documenting results, writing reports or planning the next steps.
