Offer Description

The Faculty of Psychology, Educational Sciences and Speech and Language Therapy invites applications for a full-time academic position in Educational Sciences. The chair is entitled “School, Cultures, Identities, and Relations of Domination”. The successful candidate will be appointed to the Department of Educational Sciences and will conduct their research within the Centre for Research in Educational Sciences (CRSE).

They will also contribute to the activities of the ULB “Pôle Education” and collaborate with partner Colleges (Hautes Écoles) involved in joint-degree teacher education programs (HE Bruxelles-Brabant, HE Francisco Ferrer, HE Lucia de Brouckère).

The teaching responsibilities will include, on the one hand, initial teacher education at primary and secondary levels organised by the ULB “Pôle Education” and, on the other hand, teaching within the Educational Sciences programs of the Faculty.

Research Field

Applications will be assessed on the basis of a clear grounding of the candidate’s research in Educational Sciences, or in disciplines that contribute to Educational Sciences, in line with the expectations of the position.

The CRSE is recognized both nationally and internationally for its research on the relationships between school and religion, particularly with regard to the plurality of religious and philosophical convictions, issues of secularism and neutrality, and the interactions between epistemological cultures, beliefs and identities. The successful candidate is expected to build on this expertise while extending it to the analysis of the various markers, categorizations and forms of belonging that underpin relations of domination in the educational field (notably relations between religious and/or philosophical groups, but also those linked to gender, racialization, origin, etc.),

and to examine how these relations are expressed in educational interactions and within education systems.

While research at the micro level (notably the classroom), already developed within the CRSE, may be pursued, it is expected to be articulated with other levels of analysis – meso (professional groups, organizations, networks of organizations) and macro (regional, national and international policies).

The successful candidate will be expected to supervise doctoral dissertations and postdoctoral research. They are also expected to seek external research funding (in particular from the FNRS or European funding programs).

Pedagogical and Scientific Objectives

The education system of the Wallonia‑Brussels Federation (FWB) is currently undergoing several major reforms in the context of the “Pacte pour un enseignement d’excellence” (including the implementation of the common core curriculum, reforms in initial and continuing teacher education, and school governance), with the prospect of significant changes in teaching practices and in the teaching profession. This recruitment aims to strengthen the scientific analysis of these developments from the perspectives and research approaches outlined above.

It also seeks to contribute to the pedagogical training of students in Educational Sciences and of future teachers (sections 1, 2, 3, 4 and
5).

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in the Bachelor’s program of Psychological and Educational Sciences, the Master’s program in Educational Sciences, and initial teacher education programs. Starting the 2026–2027 academic year, the teaching load will include the following courses:

The “Training in Neutrality” part of the Unit EDUC‑E520, “Socio‑historical, psychological, cultural, ethical and neutrality aspects of education”, starting un the first semester. This…
