For one of our major industrial clients in Belgium, we are currently looking for an experienced Freelance Social Compliance Specialist to strengthen the project compliance and people governance framework during a critical execution phase.
This role is essential to ensuring labor rights, fair working conditions, and social compliance across contractors and subcontractors operating on site.
This is a freelance, on-site assignment in Belgium

- Ensure full compliance with Belgian labor law, EU directives, and international social compliance standards
- Monitor and enforce ethical labor practices across all contractors and subcontractors
- Conduct regular site inspections and social compliance audits
- Identify risks related to illegal employment, underpayment, excessive working hours, or labor exploitation
- Review and verify employment documentation (contracts, attendance records, payroll, payslips)
- Evaluate suppliers and subcontractors against social compliance and human rights requirements
- Monitor worker accommodation conditions (where applicable) to ensure hygiene, safety, and dignity standards
- Establish and manage grievance mechanisms and anonymous reporting channels
- Handle complaints related to harassment, discrimination, wages, or working conditions with confidentiality and neutrality
- Organize and deliver training sessions on workers’ rights, responsibilities, and social standards
- Work closely with HSE teams to align social compliance with site safety initiatives
- Track non-conformities and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions
- Report social compliance risks, findings, and KPIs to project leadership and management
- Maintain accurate documentation and compliance records for audits and inspections
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Finance, Accounting, Risk, Compliance, or related field
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in social compliance, labor compliance, or ethical sourcing roles
- Experience in industrial, construction, chemical, or oil & gas environments preferred
- Strong knowledge of labor regulations, payroll compliance, and subcontractor governance
- Experience working in multi-contractor and project-based environments
- Ability to manage sensitive topics with professionalism, discretion, and integrity
