MCS Group is delighted to partner with a leading Northern Ireland-based technology organization to recruit a Principal Software Engineer at a pivotal time in their growth journey. The business specialises in delivering complex, bespoke software solutions to both public- and private‑sector clients. As a Principal .NET Developer you will own the technical direction across key projects: architecting, designing and delivering high‑quality, cloud‑based applications. You will guide and support development teams, champion engineering best practice, and ensure solutions are secure, scalable and built to last. Working closely with clients and internal stakeholders you will shape technical outcomes and maintain consistently high project standards.

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex software solutions for new and existing customers
• Define and maintain coding standards, architectural principles, and quality benchmarks
• Mentor and support developers, encouraging knowledge sharing and technical excellence
• Conduct code reviews and promote secure development practices
• Identify technical risks and shape effective mitigation strategies
• Drive continuous improvement across engineering tools, processes and workflows
• Stay informed of emerging technologies and recommend adoption where appropriate
• Communicate clearly with clients, stakeholders and cross‑functional teams
• Support recruitment, onboarding and development of technical team members
• Contribute to estimation, planning and resource management
• Ensure alignment with internal methodologies, governance and quality standards
• Participate in post‑project reviews and share learnings across the team

• Significant commercial software development experience, including 2+ years in a senior, lead or principal role
• Proven experience designing and delivering complex technical solutions across public and/or private sectors
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) and cloud‑native architectures
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and debugging skills
• Experience with secure coding and application security
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
• Confident communicator with proven stakeholder engagement experience
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments
• Proficiency with development tools such as Git, Dev Ops tooling, Jira, and CI/CD pipelines

Salary circa £70,000
, plus a competitive benefits package including bonus, private medical cover and enhanced pension contributions.
