About the role

Responsible to the Home Manager for the upkeep of the Care Home and surrounding grounds, undertake planned maintenance of the home ensuring excellent first impressions to all who visit. Ensuring the smooth operation and serviceability of all services such as heating, lighting, plumbing and non‑medical equipment required for the safe and efficient operation of the Home.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the home’s exterior, including pathways, driveways, flowerbeds, potted plants, grassed areas, external lighting and signage.
  • Ensure compliance with essential checks, identify and report all maintenance defects, and engage stakeholders to complete tasks inside and outside the site to a high standard.
  • Undertake decorating (painting & wallpapering) and minor refurbishment within the home.
  • Provide out‑of‑hours emergency service as part of the on‑call rota, and cover for sister homes when requested.
  • Act as an active Fire Warden, keep up to date with policy and procedures, complete required training, and induct new staff.
  • Assemble and install new equipment delivered to the home.
  • Assist with fire and water risk assessments and reviews.
  • Carry out plumbing, joinery and general building repairs to a good standard.
  • Maintain the company vehicle and carry out basic safety checks.
  • Promote independence and lifestyle opportunities for older people, and work unsupervised when required.
  • Fault‑find and perform basic repairs on all equipment such as catering and laundering machines.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Background in maintenance, painting and decorating or general trades experience.
  • Enthusiasm to support residents and maintain a safe environment.
  • Ability to work independently and be a team player.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to learn and develop.
  • Prepared to undergo relevant training as required.
