DATA DELIVERY LEAD ROLE DESCRIPTION BACKGROUND
MTS is going through a period of significant change. In 2024, we started a company‑wide Digital Transformation (“DX”) Programme, which will result in a fundamental change to our enterprise systems, data architecture and reporting capability.
As part of this transformation, MTS is establishing a modern data capability comprising three critical work streams:
The Data Delivery Lead will sit at the centre of these three work streams, ensuring they are delivered in a coordinated, controlled and business‑aligned manner.
ROLE OVERVIEWReporting to the Head of Data, the Data Delivery Lead will be responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery management of the three core data work streams within the DX Programme:
- Data Platform
- Data Migration
- Reporting & BI
The role holder will ensure:
- Clear scope definition and governance across all data initiatives
- Alignment between ERP implementation phases and data deliverables
- Effective coordination between internal teams, implementation partners and business stakeholders
- Risks, dependencies and data quality issues are actively managed
- Delivery milestones to support Retail (June) and ‘FullDX’ phase timelines
This role is not primarily technical build‑focused, but programme and delivery‑focused, ensuring that the right architecture, controls and outputs are delivered at the right time.
Stakeholder engagement at all levels — from operational managers to CFO and Board — will be critical to success.
REPORTING LINES- Responsible Director: COO
- Report To: Head of Data
- Direct Reports: N/A
- Structured Delivery Leadership – Able to manage multiple interdependent work streams with clear governance and accountability.
- Risk & Dependency Management – Proactively identifies delivery risks (data quality, cutover, reconciliation, regulatory compliance).
- Stakeholder Influence – Brings business stakeholders “on the journey” from manual processes to governed data‑led decision making.
- Clarity of Communication – Can articulate complex data concepts simply to senior leadership and operational colleagues.
- Detail Oriented – Ensures data definitions, reconciliation rules and reporting logic are robust and documented.
- Lead delivery of the MTS Data Workstream within the DX Programme.
- Ensure the Data Platform, Migration and Reporting work streams are sequenced and integrated.
- Align data deliverables to ERP implementation milestones.
- Align with governance, RAID management and reporting for all data‑related programme activities.
- Ensure operational data, archive data and analytics requirements are clearly defined and implemented.
- Support the business transition from spreadsheet-based reporting to a controlled BI model.
- Manage implementation of the MTS cloud‑based data platform (e.g. Azure‑based architecture).
- Coordinate architecture decisions with Data Architect and infrastructure teams.
- Ensure appropriate controls for:
- Data security
- GDPR and financial compliance
- Access governance
- Work with Data Migration Lead to ensure:
- Data mapping is documented and signed off
- Data cleansing and enrichment activities are completed
- Reconciliation frameworks are agreed
- Cutover plans are robust and tested
- Oversee data quality issue tracking and remediation.
- Ensure compliance around sensitive data (e.g. bank details, HR data).
- Work with Interim BI Lead to ensure:
- Reporting prioritisation aligned to:
- Retail go‑live
- Wholesale/fleet go‑live
- Executive reporting requirements
