Senior Software Engineer

MUST BE BASED IN NORTHERN IRELAND

My client is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead architecture and engineering strategy across high-impact, data-intensive platforms. This role sits at the intersection of hands-on engineering, architectural leadership, and technical influence at scale.

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will:

• Shape and evolve architecture across large, distributed systems
• Lead the design of high-volume, data-driven platforms in AWS
• Drive best practice in scalability, resilience, and performance
• Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams
• Influence long-term platform strategy and system design decisions
• Stay close to the code while operating at architectural altitude

This is a role for someone who has operated at genuine scale — not just contributed to it.

• 12–15+ years in software engineering
• Proven experience delivering and shaping large-scale enterprise systems
• Track record of architectural leadership across major programmes or platforms

• Deep expertise in Java
  , including performance optimisation and concurrency
• Apache Spark (batch and streaming workloads)
• Streaming technologies (e.g. event-driven systems)
• Amazon Redshift
• Strong relational database expertise, particularly PostgreSQL
• Experience working with large volumes of structured and semi-structured data

• Experience building data platforms or real-time processing systems
• Comfort working across infrastructure, application, and data layers

• Architectures that scale cleanly under heavy data load
• Clear technical direction across teams
• Reduced operational risk through strong system design
• High engineering standards embedded across the organisation
