Position: (CR) Day Care Worker - Aaron House

20 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9 am – 1 pm. Report to the Service Manager.

The Role

At Aaron House, we are looking for caring and dedicated Day Care Workers to join our team. Whether you are experienced or looking to start a new career in care, we offer training and support to help you succeed.

The day care centre is a small unit providing day care for adults with mild, severe and profound learning disabilities. It accommodates up to 9 service users per day with a maximum of 4 wheelchairs per day due to space constraints. The primary aim is to assist all service users to meet their full potential, with the core motivation that people matter to God.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the design, plan and implementation of individual programmes of care for residents, ensuring and promoting resident involvement.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review programmes of care to achieve high standards and provision of a quality service, identifying met/unmet needs.
  • Help residents with all aspects of personal care where necessary, upholding core values of privacy, dignity, choice and consent.
  • Encourage residents to be as active and independent as possible.
  • Arrange and/or accompany residents to medical/health appointments and on social outings.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary support agencies to ensure the holistic care needs of the residents are effectively met.
  • Administer medicines and adhere to all policies in relation to medicine control.
  • Plan, implement and supervise residents' creative activities and recreation daily, ensuring records are maintained.
  • Ensure vigilance is exercised at all times in relation to the health, safety and well‑being of residents, staff and visitors.
  • Administer PEG feeds to residents as required.
  • Supervise staff and provide input to performance appraisals and personal development plans.
  • Exercise good leadership skills and promote team‑building measures.
  • Be involved with QCF assessments as directed by the Home Manager.
  • Ensure an effective written or verbal handover between staff at all times.
  • Adhere to all rules, regulations and reporting mechanisms.
  • Assist with staff training and support to ensure compliance with professional standards and codes of practice.
  • Implement quality assurance programmes and facilitate new staff training to NISCC induction standards.
  • Communicate effectively with support team to ensure objectives are understood.
  • Assist with rota management and safe management of the monthly medication process.
  • Deal with enquiries and administrative tasks, maintaining confidentiality and client access within council and legislative guidance.
  • Keep daily records of service provision and write up evaluations of care interventions.
  • Report changes or concerns to the Service Manager.
  • Handle all service user monies and monitor petty cash expenditure as per procedure.
  • Ensure delivery of support in compliance with PCI policies.
  • Maintain a sustainable service through support delivery per contractual arrangements.
  • Attend senior care assistant meetings and general staff meetings to review and plan work.
  • Participate in in‑service mandatory training and develop knowledge to meet regulatory standards.
  • Understand the effects of learning, physical and sensory disability on individuals.
  • Adhere to the Presbyterian Church in Ireland Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies.
  • Conduct activities safely, carry out health and safety monitoring checklists, audits, and report complaints and incidents.
  • Report repair or maintenance needs to appropriate persons.
  • Lead or organise daily devotions for residents and liaise with local clergy on the spiritual programme.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties required by management for the well‑being of residents.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities and principles of care.
