If yes, then we have an exciting opportunity for you. We are looking for a Principal Transport Planner, whose focus is on Transport Business Cases, to join our Transport Planning team and assist in leading the growth and development of our business across the UK. We welcome applications from ambitious Senior Transport Planners and existing Principal Planners (or equivalent) or higher, who are willing to be based in our Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, or Belfast offices but with a remit to support our team across the UK, Ireland, and globally.
The RoleAs a Principal Transport Planner within our Transport Planning team, you will report to your Regional Lead and work closely with the Practice Lead, Regional Leads, and the other Principal Transport Planners to oversee a dynamic team, collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to deliver innovative solutions. Your strategic vision and technical prowess will be instrumental in shaping the future of transportation infrastructure.
We have a varied workload primarily working for Public Sector clients through our substantial frameworks such as the Midlands Highways Alliance, One Trafford Partnership, Transport Scotland, Department for Infrastructure (NI) Major Works and Partner contracts, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and the Government of The Bahamas. We are looking for the right person to lead on the delivery of projects under these frameworks and for our other clients.
Responsibilities:- Leadership: Provide leadership to the Transport Planning team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Business Development: Build strong client relationships and contribute to winning new projects. Raise the profile of Amey Transport Planning within the wider industry through, for example, presenting at Conferences
- Technical Expertise: Use your expertise to develop five-case models for each stage of transport business cases; working across the four nations of the UK as well as several combined authorities to apply their own nuanced approaches. You will coordinate the work of transport planners, modellers and economists and work closely with the client, Amey’s scheme designers and environmental representatives to ensure quality outputs for individual business cases.
- Project Delivery: Oversee the successful execution of projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Team Development: Mentor and develop team members, nurturing their technical and soft skills whilst fostering a collaborative environment.
- Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, driving innovation within the team.
- Experience: A proven track record in transport planning, in particular in developing robust transport business cases and leading strategic planning work, ideally within a large consultancy environment delivering for public sector clients.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and to work across a multi-disciplinary environment
- Technical Acumen: Strong knowledge of transport appraisal including DfT TAG, the ability to interpret modelling and data, experience with key appraisal tools and clear evidence-led analytical and reporting skills.
- Client Engagement: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
