Overview
Non Executive Chair and Member – NI Authority for Utility Regulation. Closes 17th May.
The Department of Finance is seeking to appoint new members to the Board of the Utility Regulator, the non-ministerial government department responsible for the economic regulation of the electricity & gas industries and water & sewerage services in Northern Ireland.
The Utility Regulator is currently the economic regulator for the electricity and natural gas industries; as the energy sector decarbonises its responsibilities will extend to other fuels and infrastructure such as heat networks. The value of the energy and water assets and businesses under regulatory scrutiny stretches to more than £3 billion, which may, over years, double. These roles are hugely important to the delivery of a healthier and more prosperous society.
The appointments come at an exciting time for the Utility Regulator which is central to protecting energy consumers in the transition from fossil fuels to achieving net zero emission targets and ensuring that business and domestic consumers alike pay a fair price for their energy.
The Chair and Board members contribute to the governance and oversight of the Utility Regulator, the body responsible for economic regulation of the electricity & gas industries and water & sewerage services in Northern Ireland, with a focus on protecting energy consumers during the transition to net zero and ensuring fair energy pricing for businesses and households.
