Overview

THE EMPLOYER IS: DIVERSE YOUTH NI. The Outreach and Education Support Worker will support Diverse Youth NI in delivering community outreach and education-focused activities for young people from diverse and marginalised backgrounds. This Job Start role is designed to provide meaningful work experience while supporting the development of employability, communication and community engagement skills. The postholder will assist with outreach activities, education support sessions and programme preparation, working closely with staff to engage young people and encourage participation in positive learning opportunities.

The role will include supporting activities during core delivery times, including evenings and weekends, as well as daytime preparation and administrative support.

Responsibilities
  • Support outreach activities to engage young people and promote Diverse Youth NI programmes within the local community.
  • Assist with the delivery of education support activities, including homework support, learning sessions and informal workshops.
  • Help prepare resources and materials for outreach and education sessions.
  • Support young people to participate in positive learning and development activities in a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Work closely with colleagues to support participants’ individual learning and development needs.
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks, attendance records and session feedback.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the role.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety and organisational policies at all times.
  • Take part in training, supervision, mentoring and employability support provided through the Job Start programme.
Skills and Qualifications
  • An interest in working with young people and supporting learning and development.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow guidance from supervisors.
  • Willingness to learn and take part in training, mentoring and employability support.
  • Basic organisational and time-management skills.
  • Understanding of the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to follow safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety and organisational procedures.
  • Previous experience of volunteering, community work, youth work or supporting learning activities.
  • An interest in education support, community outreach or youth development.
  • Ability to assist with group activities, workshops or learning sessions.
  • Awareness of challenges faced by young people from diverse or marginalised backgrounds.
  • Basic digital skills, such as using word processing tools, email or online platforms.
  • Willingness to support outreach activities, including working in community settings.
