As a Trainee Audio Visual (AV) Engineer, you will assist with the setup, operation and maintenance of sound, lighting and video equipment for live events. This position is well suited to someone with an interest in technology, strong problem‑solving skills and a hands‑on approach to work. No prior AV experience is required, as comprehensive training will be provided.
- Help set up and pack way sound, lighting and video equipment.
- Run cables, position microphones and prepare basic lighting.
- Assist during live events by checking audio and helping with technical tasks.
- Help with basic camera work and filming.
- Support with small technical problems under guidance.
- Keep equipment clean, tidy and safely stored.
- Update equipment logs and report any faults or missing items.
- Assist during rehearsals or event days.
- Help with simple post‑production tasks, like organising files or transferring footage.
- Follow health and safety rules when using equipment.
- Work as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues and event staff.
- Basic technical aptitude and an interest in audio, lighting or video equipment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to think clearly under pressure.
- Good communication skills for working effectively with colleagues, performers and event staff.
- Willingness to learn and take instruction from senior engineers and supervisors.
- Ability to work hands‑on, including lifting, carrying and setting up equipment safely.
- Attention to detail when handling cables, equipment setup and logging inventory.
- Basic computer skills, including file management and handling digital media.
- Ability to work as part of a team, supporting others to deliver successful events.
- Time management and flexibility, especially when working in fast‑paced or changing event environments.
- Health and safety awareness when working with electrical and technical equipment.
Standard hours: up to 25 hours per week. Flexible/reduced hours may be available upon approval by a work coach. Additional hours may be offered depending on availability.
