RSU 71 is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and student-centered Special Education Life Skills Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs. The Life Skills Teacher will provide individualized instruction focused on functional academics, social-emotional development, independent living skills, and career readiness to prepare students for successful post‑school outcomes.

Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Provide instruction in functional academics (reading, writing, math) aligned with students’ IEP goals
- Teach daily living skills such as personal care, budgeting, cooking, time management, and community navigation
- Support students in developing communication, social, and self‑advocacy skills
- Utilize evidence‑based instructional strategies and differentiated instruction
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families
- Conduct ongoing assessments and maintain accurate documentation of student progress
- Create a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment
- Facilitate community‑based instruction when appropriate
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Master’s preferred)
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education and CHRC
- Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities preferred
- Knowledge of transition planning and functional curriculum development
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience with assistive technology and alternative communication systems
- Training in behavior intervention strategies and data collection
- Familiarity with transition services and community partnerships
