an employee of the city, required to perform all the commonly understood duties of an animal control supervisor. The position is more specifically defined as a full-time exempt employee enforcing local ordinances and/or texas department of health rules, under the texas department of health bureau of veterinary public health, animal shelter rules section 169.62.
essential functions- manages, coordinates, and supervises the animal control staff and incorporates a team approach to code enforcement and investigation procedures
- directs operations of the city animal shelter; assists in cleaning and maintaining the shelter; remains at the shelter for receiving and releasing animals and is responsible for all paperwork associated with pet adoptions
- supervises and directs operations at the city animal shelter; assists in cleaning and maintaining the shelter; remains at the shelter for receiving and releasing animals
- attends after-hours council meetings to present animal control information and respond to questions
- testifies as an expert witness in legal proceedings
- responsible for all funds taken in at the shelter and maintaining records for budget purposes
- responsible for making decisions regarding the fate of any animal picked up or any animal impounded at the shelter
- supervises the euthanasia of animals
- may be required to make after-hours calls regarding pickup of injured and sick animals or dog bite cases
- reports to chief of police as immediate supervisor
- performs other work duties as assigned
- regular and consistent attendance in a workplace environment
- must be able to work shifts including evenings, weekends and all holidays as well as respond to off-hour calls (occasional)
knowledge, skills and abilities:
- thorough knowledge of city ordinances related to animal control
education, experience, and certification:
- high school diploma or g.e.d.
- valid tx driver's license or available alternate means of transportation
- 1-year experience as assistant animal control officer
- must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background investigation ability to attain the incident command system (ics) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800
