Job Overview

Barista – Sonesta International Hotels

The Barista takes orders, answers questions about the menu and food, sells the Hive Café food and drinks, prepares coffee as ordered, processes payment, communicates orders with kitchen staff, assists with customer service and cleaning.

• Serve patrons with food and beverages in a positive, friendly manner.
• Provide information to help food and beverage selections and answer questions.
• Present ordered choices promptly and efficiently.
• Maintain ambiance with an enthusiastic attitude.
• Prepare dining areas by setting tables, decorations, condiments, candles, napkins, service plates, and utensils.
• Protect the establishment and patrons by following sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies.
• Assist patrons in selecting items by suggesting specials, explaining chef’s specialties, identifying appropriate beverages, and answering food preparation/allergy questions.
• Transmit orders to bar, kitchen and/or coworkers by recording patrons’ choices and special dietary needs.
• Use POS systems and accept payments in accordance with Sonesta training and standards.
• Keep kitchen staff informed by noting meal progression timing and items needing replacement.
• Serve orders by picking up and delivering patrons’ choices from bar and kitchen and delivering accompaniment and condiments from service bars as needed.
• Respond to additional patron requirements by inquiring needs and observing dining process.
• Maintain tables, counters, and prep areas by cleaning, replenishing items and being alert to spills or special needs.
• Always maintain a friendly, hospitable manner and invite patrons to return.
• Obtain revenue by totaling charges, issuing bills, accepting payments, delivering bills to host, and returning change or credit card receipt to patrons.
