Behaviour Support Assistant

A forward-thinking 11–18 secondary school in Bedlington, South East Northumberland is seeking a confident and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join their pastoral team.

This is not a sit-back classroom role. This is for someone who thrives on challenge, builds strong relationships, and understands that behaviour is communication.

The school serves a diverse catchment across South East Northumberland and is known for its strong pastoral systems and clear behaviour framework. Staff work as a team — and support staff are central to that success.

Students here respond to consistency. The systems are in place — they need the right person to implement them with warmth and firmness.

You will:

• Support students who struggle with emotional regulation and behaviour
• Provide in-class support and intervention
• Deliver small group or 1:1 mentoring
• Help students reflect, reset and re-engage with learning
• Work closely with pastoral leaders and safeguarding teams

You may work with students with SEMH needs, trauma backgrounds, ADHD, or those at risk of exclusion.

• Graduates considering teaching, psychology, social work or youth justice
• Experienced TAs ready to step into a behaviour-focused role
• Youth workers or support workers looking to move into education
• Individuals confident setting boundaries while building trust

You must be calm under pressure, emotionally intelligent, and consistent in your approach.
