Quantity Surveyor/Cost & Value Engineer (Mid-Level, SQEP) Bedfordshire Negotiable
Retained by our client, we seek a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) with hands‑on expertise across both Quantity Surveying and Value Engineering to join the client’s business. You will be a commercially sharp, technically confident professional who thrives on making significant projects financially smarter and more efficient.
This is more than a traditional QS role. It’s an opportunity to influence strategy, challenge design, and deliver measurable value from concept through to completion in the construction sector.
The RoleYou’ll operate at the heart of project delivery — balancing cost control, commercial insight, and value enhancement.
You will:
- Lead detailed cost planning and estimating across multiple design stages.
- Prepare and manage tender documentation and procurement processes.
- Evaluate contractor submissions and provide clear commercial recommendations.
- Administer contracts, including interim valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Identify, quantify and manage commercial risks.
- Deliver structured value engineering workshops and design reviews.
- Propose cost‑efficient alternatives without compromising performance.
- Undertake whole‑life cost analysis and investment appraisals.
- Provide accurate cost forecasting and financial reporting.
- Support negotiation of claims and settlements.
- You won’t just report costs — you’ll shape better outcomes.
- You’ll influence design decisions early, not just manage spend later.
- You’ll work across complex, high value projects.
- You’ll collaborate with designers, engineers, contractors, and senior stakeholders.
- Your insight will directly impact performance, efficiency, and long‑term asset value.
We seek an individual who combines technical competence with commercial intelligence.
You will bring:
- Demonstrable experience in both Quantity Surveying and Value Engineering
- Strong knowledge of cost planning, procurement, and contract administration
- Confidence in analysing and challenging design proposals
- Experience managing variations, risk registers and cost reporting.
- Understanding of whole‑life costing principles
- Clear communication skills and the ability to influence decisions.
- A proactive mindset and strong attention to detail
- Chartered status or working towards would be an advantage but not essential if experience clearly demonstrates capability.
- Suitable qualifications and familiarity with software product and tools to underpin your experience.
In essence, a credible base salary, car allowance, significant employers pension contribution and remote/hybrid working all combine to make this a highly attractive package.
SummaryThis role will expose you to complex and meaningful projects with genuine influence and visibility. It will support your continued professional development, in a collaborative, forward‑thinking environment in which you can grow into senior commercial leadership.
If you are ready to move beyond traditional cost management and step into a role where your expertise drives smarter investment and better value, we ask you — in the first instance — to express an initial interest with an up‑to‑date CV (or Linked In profile).
