Position DetailsRole: Student Engagement Coordinator
Location: Bedfordshire – Central Bedfordshire College and Bedford College Campuses
Salary/Benefits: £24,720 – £29,870 per annum (Pro‑Rata) DOE and qualifications, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 38 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time
Right to Work: Must have the right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available).
The Role
We are currently seeking two Student Engagement Coordinators to join our Student Services department at The Bedford College Group. There is one vacancy at our Central Bedfordshire College campus, and one at our Bedford College campus – please state which one you are applying for in your applications personal statement.
As a Student Engagement Coordinator, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Team Coordination & Oversight – Support the day‑to‑day operations of the Student Engagement Officer team, working closely with Participation & Development managers to ensure consistent delivery across campuses.
- Student Conduct & Support – Promote positive behaviour, supervise social spaces, address , and provide direct support to students regarding conduct and engagement.
- Event & Programme Delivery – Assist in organising student events, workshops, and enrichment activities that foster personal growth, responsibility, and college community involvement.
- Collaboration & Communication – Liaise with curriculum, estates, safeguarding, and wellbeing teams to address student needs and escalation concerns appropriately.
- Compliance & Development – Maintain accurate records, uphold safeguarding and EDI policies, and engage in ongoing professional development to support departmental KPIs.
- Qualifications & Training – Level 2 in English and Maths required; enhanced DBS clearance;
First Aid trained or willing to train; open to gaining a recognised professional qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 4 in youth work or similar). - Experience & Knowledge – Experience working with 16–24‑year‑olds in education or youth settings; confident in behaviour management, signposting for support, and understanding barriers to learning.
- Skills & Competencies – Strong communication, organisation, and IT skills; able to motivate and challenge students constructively, maintain accurate records, and manage incidents calmly.
- Professional Attributes – Empathetic, student‑centred, and inclusive; maintains professional boundaries, contributes to team goals, and supports colleagues under pressure.
- Flexibility & Commitment – Willing to work evenings/weekends, travel across campuses, represent the college externally, and engage in continuous professional development.
