Role: Learning Support Assistant

Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £23,557 and £25,849 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 36 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time

About

The Role

We are currently seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join our Foundation Learning & Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Student-Centred Support – Provide tailored assistance to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them access learning across classroom, community, and workplace settings.
  • Personal & Practical Care – Deliver personal care and physical support as needed, administer medication (with training), and promote independence through life-skills development.
  • Learning & Progress Monitoring – Support individual learning plans, prepare resources, track progress, and contribute to reports and reviews in collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Team Collaboration & Events – Work closely with the Pathways Team, assist with administrative tasks, and participate in college events such as open days and transition activities.
  • Safeguarding & Professional Standards – Uphold safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety policies, maintain a safe and stimulating environment, and engage in ongoing training and development.
About You
  • Qualifications & Knowledge – Holds Level 2 in Maths and English, with a relevant Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards it, and a working understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Experience & Technical Skills – Experienced in supporting young people with SEND in educational or care settings, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintaining accurate records.
  • Communication & Teamwork – Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills across all formats, works well independently and collaboratively, and contributes positively to team dynamics.
  • Values & Professionalism – Committed to creating a welcoming learning environment, promoting the college’s reputation, and working flexibly across all sites with a respectful and adaptable attitude.
  • Safeguarding & Integrity – Understands safeguarding responsibilities, maintains appropriate boundaries with learners, and is committed to continuous professional development and high standards of conduct.
