SUMMARY
Under direct supervision completes daily work orders related to Water Utility Billing and Customer Services including reading water meters both electronically and manually, service activation and termination, water meter maintenance, and customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESReceive written work orders or verbal instructions from Utility Crew Chief.
- Read and record utility meter readings both manually and with electronic equipment.
- Turn on/turn off water service for Utility Billing division. Operate service connection valves using hand tools.
- Inspect meters and prepare work orders for any abnormalities or issues.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on meters and associated equipment.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to perform meter reading tasks.
- Respond to emergency calls; investigate customer complaints related to pressure/flow, leaks, high consumption, taste and odor, and other complaints.
- Prepare and assign work orders for leak investigations and system repairs.
- Perform daily checks of materials, equipment, supplies, vehicles, and tools as instructed.
- Assist Water Quality crews with routine flushing and hydrant maintenance.
- Assist Water Utility crews in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water utility systems.
- Assists Public Works divisions as needed, including standby and emergency call back.
- Perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
- Utilize standard office equipment, such as copiers and computers.
- Adhere to all City and department safety rules and procedures.
- Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma/GED. Some related experience and/or training preferred.
CERTIFICATES / LICENSES- Valid TX Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain a Texas B Commercial Driver’s License within one (1) year of hire.
- Ability to obtain a Work Zone Traffic Control certification within one (1) year of hire.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
SPECIALIZED KSAsWorking knowledge of street, water, wastewater and drainage maintenance procedures and equipment operating practices.
