Work Location & Hours- Location:
Texas Health HEB - Core work hours:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Patient Care: Provide professional pastoral care to patients and their loved ones. Document spiritual assessments and interventions in the electronic medical record.
Administrative Functions: Manage scheduling, time‑keeping audits, chaplain EMR documentation audits, reports, goals, measurements, performance reviews, and other quality‑assurance duties.
Interdisciplinary Team Integration: Support entity administration and nursing leadership through Pastoral Care integration. Oversee department participation in entity committees and hospital process improvements. Participate in the ritual life of the institution. Provide staff support, including leadership collaboration.
Community Liaison: Serve as faith representative for the hospital and liaison to area faith communities.
Goal Setting: Develop and maintain annual goals and measurable outcomes in collaboration with the Director. Maintain board‑certification requirements, including denominational and continuing‑education obligations.
Education- Master’s of Divinity or related degree from an accredited theological school (required).
- 6 years of experience in pastoral care or a congregational setting (required).
- 4 units of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education (required).
- Board Certified Chaplain (APC, NACC, or similar credentialing agency).
- Ordination and endorsement by a religious judicatory (required upon hire).
- Integrate theological, ethical, and psychological resources into compassionate pastoral care.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency and use of electronic communication tools, e.g., email, calendar.
- Ability to work with people of all faith traditions and cultural backgrounds.
- Provide religious and spiritual rituals as requested by patients and staff.
- Offer creative, appropriate opportunities for faith expression within the hospital setting.
- Assess when referral to outside clergy is appropriate.
- Work effectively during crisis and bereavement, with familiarity with local resources.
- Debrief with clinical staff after critical incidents, understanding cumulative stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
- Adhere to all HIPAA rules and regulations, using error‑prevention tools to maintain safety and standards of care.
- Support department team functioning, sharing events or concerns with the Director and fostering trust and collaboration.
- Flexibility to adjust work location and hours as needed due to patient volumes or institutional needs.
