The Physical Security Shift Leader is the first line supervisor; providing leadership, supervision and oversight over all physical security operations on their assigned shift. Shift Leaders must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of physical security practices, procedures, electronic security systems such as access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance systems; life safety systems, building fire alarm systems, emergency response procedures, risk management, conducting investigations.
The Shift Leader independently directs the activities of the security officers, receptionists, and Security Operations Center.
Shift Leaders must have the ability to supervise others, develop staff into a cohesive team, manage their resources effectively, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate the ability to make sound decisions under sometimes stressful conditions. In the event of an emergency, the Shift Leader may assume the role of On-Scene Emergency Coordinator until the arrival of more senior personnel.
While assigned to this position, and working with the Shift Supervisor, the Shift Leader represents MITRE's senior management regarding security and safety concerns.
Provides support to the Physical Security Operations Manager by inspecting and auditing functional areas of the group to ensure the highest level of service to the MITRE community. Perform duties that are essential to the protection of MITRE's assets and its personnel.
Role & Responsibilities:
* Upon assuming duty, receive a thorough briefing from off-going Shift Leader on the current security status of all campus and site facilities to include: any special alerts, threat level changes, posting and security staffing changes, current status of security and life safety systems, special events; meetings or distinguished visitors on campus; any current or on-going incidents that require follow-up action and reporting.
* Receive a briefing from the Security Operations Center Operators (SOCOs) on the operational status of all equipment, electronic security systems, alarm conditions, or other events affecting our security posture.
* Ensure that all equipment is accounted for and functions properly. Equipment includes Portable and Base Station Radios, Routine and Emergency Telephones, security vehicle and keys, gas card, all other security key rings, guard tour wands, security containers, applicable binders, and manuals. Any discrepancies (missing or damaged equipment) must be immediately investigated and reported to the Physical Security Supervisor and Physical Security Operations Manager.
* Inspect the Security Operations Center each shift for cleanliness and housekeeping.
* Review Shift and Incident Reports that have been completed since your last shift for significant events and additional pass down information. Prepare incident reports as required.
* Conduct a guard mount prior to shift, with MITRE and contract Security personnel, to ensure that all personnel are in the proper uniform, present a groomed and neat professional appearance, have all required equipment, and are physically and mentally fit to perform assigned duties. Brief all Security personnel on the current security conditions and any special events scheduled during the shift.
Quiz personnel on their duties to ensure they have a thorough understanding and knowledge of their post orders.
* Inspect each reception desk and lobby area to ensure that they present a clean, clutter-free, professional environment, and that all forms, badges, keys, AED and equipment are accounted for and operational.
* Conduct frequent training and drills to ensure that all assigned personnel are proficient in normal security and emergency response procedures. Response drills should be conducted as a minimum once per week on each shift.
