Overview
The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, patient-centered care across multiple clinical settings, including Urgent Care and Specialty Clinics, delivering coverage to various specialty areas with a focus on care coordination, patient education, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality care for Veterans and flexibility in assignments.
Qualifications- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE
- Or individuals in a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Nursing may become registered with a state licensing board prior to completion
- Upon achievement of a State license, may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to permanent after bridge program completion

- Or foreign school graduates with current, full, active, and unrestricted registration meet requirements for graduation from an approved nursing education program
- Credit for foreign nursing education higher than an associate degree requires a formal degree equivalency validation
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted nursing registration in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: may be appointed at entry step on a 120-day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case basis)
- Preferred Experience:
1–2 years in Urgent Care or Emergency Medicine; experience in Specialty Clinics, Primary Care, and Medical-Surgical nursing - Grade determinations and scope criteria are assessed via online assessment and correspond to Nurse I‑III progression levels

- Physical Requirements:
visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity; may require long periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, pushing; may require transferring objects; protective equipment may be required in isolation situations; may be exposed to combative patients
- Deliver evidence-based care for acute and chronic conditions in Urgent Care and Specialty Clinics
- Perform triage and prioritize patients requiring immediate attention according to the Emergency Severity Index (ESI)
- Work across multiple specialty areas (e.g., Podiatry, Pain, Allergy, Neurology, Gynecology, Urgent Care) with flexibility to transition between assignments
- Administer medications and procedures per policies and guidelines
- Maintain clinical flow and assist with intake and treatments within scope of practice
- Educate patients, families, and team members
- Document care promptly in CPRS
- Demonstrate leadership in educating patients, families, and health care team members
- Identify and respond to emergency or crisis situations appropriately
- Responsible for storage, cleaning techniques, and use of reusable medical equipment (RME)
- Maintain mandatory and clinical competencies required for the position
- Triages and addresses phone messages, secure messages, chart audits, and consults as directed by service line
- Educate colleagues and/or students; serve as a preceptor or mentor
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians/providers, social workers, and other health care professionals to enhance patient care
- Participate in quality improvement projects, professional development activities, and committee work
- Rotate Charge Nurse responsibilities as directed
- Potential travel to local Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs)
- Additional duties within the Registered Nurse scope of practice as required
