Sr. Design Engineer sought to collaborate with Development Engineers, Scientists, and Operations to support Amptek’s engineering department development and ongoing operations. The Design Engineer will work directly with engineering, operations, and production personnel to incorporate new products into manufacturing and later support manufacturing and production control in the continual improvement of existing products. The Sr. Design Engineer will be responsible for customer and in-line failures, as well as supporting production operators.
Responsibilities- Leads in the gathering of data relating to engineering design, manufacturing & product support.
- Uses an understanding of product design and fabrication processes, combined with standard best practice methods, to establish a volume manufacturing process (thousands per year).
- Directs the gathering of raw data and assists in processing data and communicates in meaningful forms to capture current manufacturing yields and drive yield improvements.
- Works with the Sales & Marketing team to help define a product roadmap.
- Evaluates current manufacturing processes and designs. Identifies potential improvements and can evaluate the return on investment and risk associated with identified improvements.
- Communicates with engineers on non-conformity and product assembly issues.
- Responsible for the design, design for manufacturability, and hand-off to Operations for assigned product lines.
- Supports Operations and Manufacturing Engineering teams as necessary to ensure schedules and on-time delivery (OTD) for assigned product lines.
- B.S. in engineering technology field or science-related discipline (equivalent work-related experience acceptable); M.S. preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a cleanroom-type manufacturing environment
- Demonstrable design and mechanical skills necessary to establish a manufacturing capability, including bringing up equipment, customization, procurement, and characterization.
- Expertise in material spectrometry and technology, such as XRF, preferred
- Knowledge of engineering processes around documentation development and SOPs.
- Six Sigma and/or lean manufacturing training preferred.
- Adaptability - Understands changes in work-group tasks, situations, and the department as well as the logic or basis for change; actively seeks information about changes affecting their individual job. Treats changes and new situations as opportunities for learning or growth.
- Engineering Processes – Possess basic knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by related Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology).
- Motivation - Self-starter able to function with minimal supervision. Actively coordinates with others to proactively identify and resolve potential conflicts to meet defined project timelines.
- Communication – Possess effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Team Player - Understands the importance of the team and drives communication and coordination within it.
