Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the seasonal position of Assistant Lifeguard / Assistant Instructor– Bedford Outdoor Pool.

The Assistant Lifeguard / Assistant Instructor ensures pool safety through supervision and public education. The Assistant Lifeguard / Assistant Instructor also performs lifeguard duties such as checking and maintaining equipment; performing safety supervision; proactively intervening in emergency situations; providing water rescue, first aid and follow-up; maintaining in service training requirements and personal fitness levels as outlined and/or performs swimming instructor duties such as teaching lessons;
educating swimmers about hazards and safety; carrying out rescues and follow-up; maintaining reports; planning special events, etc. The Assistant Lifeguard / Assistant Instructor supports persons with disabilities (e.g. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, administering medication, etc.) in programs.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Seasonal - July 1st, 2026 to August 31 2026
HOURS OF WORK: Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule / overtime may be required.
SALARY: Non-Union; $17.75 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay).
WORK LOCATION: 277 Shore Drive, Bedford. Work location can be changed according to operational requirements.
