Job Description Summary- Crew member essential to the application of asphalt on highways, private roadways, parking lots, and driveways through the operation of screed controls.
- Operate the asphalt paver, making normal adjustments to obtain proper depth, grade, and finish cross‑section of asphalt material via screed extensions.
- Previous experience in asphalt paving or construction is preferred.
- Partner with other crew members to apply asphalt per plan specifications and perform tasks of other positions as instructed by the crew foreman to ensure daily schedules and estimates are met.
- May perform other related duties such as adding or removing screed extensions.
- Use tools such as brooms, pick, mattock, axe, brush hook, hammer, saw, pneumatic hammer/drill, tamps (manual and power‑driven), sample saw, concrete saw, and sledge hammer as needed.
- Have the physical ability to operate equipment under temperature extremes and for extended hours. A normal shift is 8–12 hours.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance; this is an essential function of the job.
- Maintain a courteous and professional manner with co‑workers, customers, and the public.
- Be flexible with last‑minute schedule changes, location changes, and time of shift changes. Overtime work is required; out‑of‑town, out‑of‑county, or out‑of‑state work may be required.
- Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition.
- Initiate and assist with other positions as necessary for job completion.
- Pass a drug test and criminal background check.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
