ResponsibilitiesThe 2 South unit is responsible for the treatment of patients requiring Medical-Surgical, Observational or Out-Patient nursing care. The unit handles medical and surgical nursing, initiating life-saving procedures, and providing emergency care, including care to patients requiring telemetry monitoring. The unit delivers care that includes assessment, problem identification, pre-operative assessment, pre- and post-operative care, interventions, treatment and evaluation of actual, potential, or perceived physical or psychological problems.
Procedures or treatments provided on the 2-South unit include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring Observation Patients
- Admission assessment
- Pre and post-operative care
- Pre and post endoscopy care
- Medication administration
- IV therapy
- Administration of blood and blood products
- Post radiation treatments
- Pain control
- Pulse oximeter, O2 therapy
- Insertion of foley catheters
- IV and PCA pumps
- Blood warmers
- NG tube placement
- Tube feedings
- Assisting physician with insertion of chest tubes
- Abdominal paracentesis and thoracentesis
- Maintenance of CVP lines
- Blood draws from CVP lines
- Wound care
- Defibrillation
- Graduate of a School of Nursing / College Nursing Education Program
- Current licensure by the West Virginia State Board of Nursing
- Pass pre-employment medication test with a score of 80% or better
