RN Med/Surg Ortho-Post Surgical

Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in Medical Surgical Orthopedics.

Reports to:

Director Med/Surg Orthopedics.

FLSA:
Non‑exempt.

• Associate's Degree in Nursing – Required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing – Preferred.
• Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi‑state (compact) license).
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year of hire and maintained thereafter.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action, and computer proficiency.

• Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatments.
• Documents patient care provided.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient/family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Advocates for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
• Performs patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in other nursing units as necessary.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
