Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area (SRGA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people and communities to the Schuylkill River and its trails. Our mission is to foster care and preservation of the watershed and its heritage through public engagement and regional development. We are based in the Schuylkill River Valley in Pennsylvania, serving communities along the Schuylkill River Trail and Schuylkill River Water Trail.
The VISTA will research and identify grant opportunities, develop systems to strengthen organizational capacity, and support partnerships that expand access to the Schuylkill River Trail and Water Trail. Activities include creating sustainable processes for fundraising, building community engagement strategies, and supporting long-term development goals. We are looking for someone that has strong research and writing skills, ability to organize and manage projects independently, interest in community development, environmental stewardship, and nonprofit operations, and comfortable working collaboratively with diverse partners.
This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact by helping communities thrive through outdoor recreation and heritage preservation.
You’ll gain hands-on experience in grant writing, capacity building, and partnership development—skills that open doors to careers in nonprofits, conservation, and public service. Plus, you’ll work with a supportive team and a site supervisor who understands Ameri Corps and is committed to your success.
Member DutiesThe VISTA will serve with SRGA, municipalities, and other organizations to develop, plan, raise funds for, and construct sections and amenities of the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) and Schuylkill River Water Trail (SRWT), along with other important site enhancement projects. This project may include organizing workshops, coordinating public meetings, preparing grant applications, participating in engineering discussions, and consulting with industry professionals.
The VISTA will develop plans for database management, grant writing, scheduling public meetings, planning engineering sessions, and evaluating recreational amenities. These evaluations will review how effectively the amenities serve the local areas they reach. The VISTA member will also collaborate with SRGA staff on events designed to encourage public participation and highlight the value of the recreational resources provided by SRGA and similar organizations.
