JOB DESCRIPTION

The alternative teacher will facilitate the Summers County Schools Alternative Education Program held on the campus of SCCHS. The Alternative Education Program will run from 3:30 pm-6:30 pm, Monday-Thursday. There are two positions, with each position working two evenings a week.

QUALIFICATIONS

Holds appropriate certification in assigned field

RESPONSIBLE TO

Principal and Superintendent

SUPERVISES

Students

SALARY

$30.00 per hour, not to exceed 6 hours per week, with one additional hour for planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Will instruct, following regular teacher's lesson plans, all students placed in the alternative education program.
  • Implement the program of study.
  • Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Utilize instructional management systems that increase student learning and utilize time on task.
  • Monitor student progress toward instructional goals and objectives or IEPs.
  • Maintain and upgrade his/her professional skills.
  • Promote and maintain positive public relations with students, parents, colleagues and appropriate community organizations.
  • Maintain professional work habits.
  • Will perform other services and duties that may be required by the principal, superintendent, and/or the board of education.
  • SELECTION CRITERIA
    • West Virginia professional teaching certificate, grades 6-8
    • ability to effect positive behavior in disruptive students
    • effective leadership and/or mentoring skills in working with youth
    • successful experience in providing education to troubled or disruptive youth
    • specialized training or experience in non-traditional programs
    • specialized training in behavior management skills
