About the Role
VTM Group, a high-tech firm in the Hillsboro area, seeks an IT Support Technician to join our Corporate Information Technology (IT) group. The IT Support Technician is responsible for providing excellent customer service support to our on-site, traveling, and remote staff. This is a technical support position that will interact with our internal users through email, instant messaging, phone support, and in person.
This person will report directly to the IT Manager and assist Corporate IT staff with ongoing projects and support requests.
Job Responsibilities
The IT Support Technician provides hands-on technical support and ensures our employees have the tools and assistance they need to do their best work. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide tier-one help desk support to all business units via phone, email, chat, and in person
- Handle tier-two ticket escalations as skills develop
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues on Windows, Linux, and Mac
- Perform hardware and software upgrades to notebooks and workstations
- Image, configure, and deploy laptops and desktop PCs
- Troubleshoot wired/wireless network and Internet connectivity issues
- Diagnose and correct problems with printers and multi-function devices
- Manage user accounts in Active Directory (password resets, account creation, access requests)
- Support Microsoft 365 accounts and applications
- Provide technical training and assistance to end users
- Maintain and update IT documentation, policies, and knowledge base articles
- Travel between VTM and Novus locations as needed to provide on-site support
- Full-time, on-site position at our Hillsboro, OR location
- Excellent people skills and a genuine desire to help others
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. (laptops, desktops, equipment)
- This position will regularly drive between two business locations with employee-provided transportation. A clean driving record is desired.
- Availability for after-hours support when urgent issues arise-when systems go down or users need critical support, we need someone who responds with urgency
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or equivalent work experience
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues on Windows
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Office Suite
- Experience with ticketing systems (Jira, Service Now, or similar)
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (DHCP, DNS, VPN fundamentals)
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Problem-solving mindset and quick learner
- High attention to detail and organization skills
- CompTIA certifications (A+, N+, or S+)
- Experience with Active Directory beyond basic user management
- Azure fundamentals or familiarity with cloud environments
- VMware basics (logging into vSphere, basic navigation)
- Exposure to cloud migration projects
- Veeam backup experience
- Linux/Unix basics (command line navigation)
- macOS support experience
- Cyber security awareness or fundamentals training
