Job Summary

The RN participates as a member of the health care team in delivering quality health care to patients, which supports Kaiser Permanente’s mission, vision and values. The RN provides a variety of nursing services both in person and by phone utilizing the nursing process and leadership skills to address acute and chronic needs of Health Plan members and other patients of the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Program.

He/she works under the general direction of the designated supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to service and to socially relevant practice.
  • Adheres to Quality of Service Standards and Behavioral Guidelines.
  • Acts as an advocate for individuals, groups and communities and demonstrates accountability for own ethical behavior.
  • Utilizes a critical thinking approach to problem solve and make decisions using analytical reasoning, reflection and rational problem‑solving skills.
  • Provides culturally sensitive teaching materials to individuals, families and groups.
  • Practices health care team building and leadership skills and mentors new staff.
  • Participates in population‑based care activities and promotes prevention and early intervention.
  • Demonstrates technological literacy in using computerized information systems.
  • Engages in ongoing continuing education activities and serves as a resource for the health care team.
  • Provides evidence‑based, clinically competent nursing care in a culturally sensitive manner across the care continuum.
  • Applies effective oral and written communication skills and manages conflict.
  • Recognizes the impact of systems on health care delivery and facilitates coordination of care across settings.
  • Acts as an advocate for individuals and groups with unmet health needs and applies continuous improvement tools.
  • Commutes between locations on prescheduled and short‑notice basis and supports multiple clinics and teams.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum two (2) years of RN experience in acute care or ambulatory care/clinic setting within the last five (5) years OR successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente NW Ambulatory RN New Grad/transition to practice program.
  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Required credentials in primary work state at hire and additional credentials in secondary work state(s) post‑hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (Washington) within 6 months of hire OR Compact License:
    Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support required at hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization within 6 months of hire.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Certification from International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.
Additional Requirements
  • Must obtain and maintain PEARS certification within 6 months of hire/transfer unless excluded per exemption process.
  • Demonstrates clinical nursing and leadership skills.
  • Able to type 20 words per minute.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn computerized information systems.
  • Demonstrates ability to work within teams and within a dynamic work environment.
  • Customer focused.
  • Able to travel between locations, both prescheduled and short notice.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with population care/case management, triage and advice.
  • Current or future bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
  • Inpatient/Ambulatory Lactation care experience preferred.
  • Membership of International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA).

  • This position supports the West Service Area and will float between:
    Sunset, Tualatin, Beaverton.
