In our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians support pharmacy teams to deliver consistent operational and service excellence. Technicians are often the first point of contact for patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly while providing a caring service that exceeds expectations.
Responsibilities- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: create heartfelt moments while serving patients at pick‑up, drive‑thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone; solve or elevate patient problems with compassion.
- Complete basic inventory activities, such as accurately putting away medication deliveries and completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting‑bin inventories, etc., as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership.
- Contribute to a high‑performing team, embracing a growth mindset, accepting feedback, and seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, voluntarily traveling to other stores in the market for shifts as needed.
- Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles. Comply with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and controlled‑substance dispense/recordkeeping.
- Deliver additional patient health‑care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and voluntary staffing off‑site clinics) where allowed by law and supported by training and certification.
- Complete additional licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status for vaccine preparation and administration.
- Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty.
- Monitor and respond to adverse reactions; report events per public‑health requirements.
- Review, collect, and document patient information for each applicable patient.
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
- Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing pharmacy practice, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
- If the state board does not mandate a minimum age, applicant must be at least 16 years old.
- If the state board does not mandate a minimum education, applicant must have a high‑school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high‑school or an equivalency program.
- State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
