The Job in a Nutshell:

This role requires an outgoing personality and passion for sharing nutrition knowledge and inspiring people to act and achieve their health goals. You’ll wear many hats while working in a fast-paced retail setting, conducting classes, private coaching sessions, community outreach, and retail operations (e.g., customer service, stocking shelves, cleaning, etc.). As the store’s nutrition professional, you will act as an educational resource providing science-based nutrition education/training to the store Crew, our customers, and the community.

This position is a front-line contributor to the Natural Grocers mission and plays an integral role in helping Natural Grocers improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. Through providing free nutrition education and helping people understand why their food choices matter, you will play an important role in Natural Grocers' commitment to creating a sustainable, just, regenerative food system where humans, animals, and the earth can thrive.

Main Responsibilities:

• Acts as the nutrition education resource for the customers, Crew, and community.
• Provides customer service on the floor in the vitamin aisles (assists customers with product purchasing, provides education resources, etc.).
• Performs retail operations such as maintaining customer literature files, managing the book department, stocking and facing products, assisting with cleaning the vitamin department and store, and merchandising products.
• Provides nutrition education through offering in-store nutrition and recipe demonstration classes, outreach classes, and regular training to Crew. Maintains the Crew Wellness Board and encourages Crew participation in employee nutrition challenges.
• Provides private one-on-one health coaching sessions.
• Builds community relationships through practitioner partnerships, guest presenters, event partners, etc.
• Seeks outreach opportunities to provide nutrition education and build brand awareness.
• Maintains continued education requirements by reviewing research and completing CE assignments.
• Assists management with coordinating, organizing, and executing company-wide events.
• Prepares materials for classes, outreach, and coaching sessions and manages orders for nutrition education supplies.
• Trains Crew on promoting NHC services, in-store events, and promotions.
• Attends monthly meetings (webinars, regional, and sales calls).
• Acts as an event ambassador for in-store guest presenter classes during floor days.

All employees are expected to be "hands-on" and flexible to perform any tasks necessary to support the company's success.

Recipe for Success:

• A degree/certification in nutrition or a related field (e.g., dietetics, Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Biology, Biochemistry, Naturopathy).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Excellent public speaking skills.
• Confidence in delivering cooking demonstrations and nutrition classes.
• Ability to engage customers and initiate conversations to promote events, services, and sales.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, and receptive to feedback.
• Passionate about providing nutrition education to employees, customers, and the community.
• Comfortable performing retail operations such as stocking, facing, checking product expiration dates, and cleaning.

Maintaining Nutrition Knowledge:

• If continuing education is required for your degree/certification, fulfill those requirements.
• If not, maintain 16 CE hours (or two CE units) annually.
