The City of Beaverton is hiring an Assistant City Engineer to help lead the Public Works Engineering Division. This position is responsible for managing the city’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), supervising senior engineering staff, and overseeing budgeting, strategic planning, and project delivery. The role also includes presenting to City Council and working closely with other departments and agencies, including the Community Development Department and the Beaverton Urban Redevelopment Agency (BURA).
This position is ideal for a licensed civil engineer with strong public sector experience, or experience working closely with public agencies, and who is ready to grow in a leadership role. The Assistant City Engineer will guide complex infrastructure projects from planning through implementation, ensure compliance with engineering and standards and city policies, and support staff development and performance.
This is a full-time, exempt, Management 2 (M2) position. There is one vacancy.

Divisionleadership, supervision, and planning
- Develop, review, and implement division work plans, policies, procedures, and reports.
- Set performance standards and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Serve on the Public Works Department senior management team.
- Supervise and support staff to meet departmental goals.
- Assign and review work, make hiring decisions, and provide coaching and training.
- Conduct performance evaluations and manage disciplinary processes.
- Lead the planning, budgeting, and execution of the city’s Capital Improvement Program.
- Oversee project and program managers throughout all phases of project delivery.
- Monitor budgets, schedules, and change orders to ensure projects stay on track.
- Collaborate with other city departments and divisions, including the Community Development Department and the Beaverton Urban Redevelopment Agency.
- Represent the city in meetings with developers, contractors, agencies, and the public.
- Support boards, commissions, and professional committees on engineering topics and issues.
- Attend and present at City Council and other public meetings.
- Prepare agenda bills, staff reports, and other materials for City Council review.
- Respond to questions and information requests from city leaders, staff, and the public on engineering-related topics.

Minimum qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited institution, and
- Five years of engineering experience, including
- Two years of supervisory experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the city’s driving standards.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Oregon, or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire.
- Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check.

Wagerange$10,102.80 - $13,539.62 monthly
