Recycling Services Representative

Location:

5505 SW Western Ave, Beaverton, OR 97005

Salary: $63,700 - $84,900 (depending on experience; eligible for Sales Incentive Plan)

Role Overview

A Recycling Representative evaluates a supplier’s recycling needs and offers, using consultative sales techniques, to recommend solutions that generate and maintain profitability. Executing business development activities across the sales process—including prospect development, cold calling, proposal submission, and competition for recovered fiber from commercial, manufacturing, and industrial businesses—is a primary function of this role.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and secure profitable recyclable material supply for the plant.
  • Understand plant costs and apply that knowledge through account profitability analysis tools.
  • Understand the plant's capabilities and source fiber accordingly, using professional selling skills to acquire new business.
  • Develop and execute an effective prospecting and fiber procurement plan.
  • Monitor recycling market pricing and adjust existing supplier pricing as needed to maintain margin.
  • Act as liaison between supplier and plant to ensure timely, accurate information flow.
  • Develop a clear understanding of supplier’s business and critical requirements through frequent facility visits.
  • Handle supplier complaints promptly and effectively.
  • Practice effective time and territory management.
  • Function effectively as member of the plant fiber sourcing team.
  • Interface with other departments and maintain open lines of communication with stakeholders.
  • Own the account and all account responsibilities.
  • Understand buy/sell margins and overall margin management.
Qualifications & Skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four-year college degree in business with emphasis in marketing or business administration (preferred).
  • Minimum two years of successful direct outside sales or fiber sourcing experience.
  • Familiarity with the recycled fiber industry and/or pulp and paper industry.
  • Fiber sourcing, sales and/or marketing experience in wastepaper recycling.
  • Interest in general management as a potential career path.
  • Strong organizational and multi‑responsibility handling skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Customer/supplier focus, with ability to listen, understand, and analyze needs.
  • Ability to recognize market changes and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Strong people skills, working with diverse personalities.
  • Basic financial skills in managing gross margin and account profit relative to a facility’s P&L.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to relocate (relocation offered).
  • Additional duties as needed for effective plant operation.
