GENERAL NATURE OF WORK:This is a professional and supervisory role in the Planning and Development Department.
An employee in this class is responsible for preparing and administering short term projects, long-range planning, and overseeing site design activities for the City; providing staff support to the Planning Commission, City Council advisory committees, and community groups through oral presentations and written reports; and assisting the Director of Planning and Development with the operation and administration of the economic development programs.
Duties are performed under the direction of the Director of Planning and Development.

This position requires general knowledge of office equipment, including:personal computer, engineer’s and architect’s scales, telephone, copy machine, and motor vehicle.
The primary work site is Beavercreek City Hall.
Field research, site visits, and attendance at meetings with community groups, developers, or other planning/development groups may take place inside or outside the City of Beavercreek, during or beyond normal business hours.
The City of Beavercreek, a vibrant suburb of Dayton, Ohio, spans approximately 27.7 square miles with an estimated population of 47,741 as of 2019. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

- Supervises all phases of staff analysis of private development proposals (including zoning applications, PUD’s and site plans, supervises staff analysis of subdivision applications and official staff reports for public presentation purposes.
- Coordinates physical planning projects, advanced analyses and studies, and plans for future growth and/or infill redevelopment within the City.
- Acts as the City’s Floodplain Administrator.
- Assists other City departments with planning, design and environmental programs at the direction of the Planning and Development Director.
- Participates in staff preparation of amendments to the zoning code, subdivision regulations, and other land use regulations.
- Coordinates and completes literature research, field work, primary data collection, and data analysis when necessary.
- Oversees the City’s landscape architecture standards, including plan review, inspections, and bonding requirements.
- Conducts research into environmental policies and initiatives, and conducts planning and design assignments intended to preserve the City’s natural resources and features.
- Assists the Director of Planning and Development with the operation and administration of the economic development programs
- Assists in the preparations and administration of the departmental budget.
- Coordinates the preparation of grant applications to secure necessary funding to implement established City objectives.
- Assumes the responsibilities of the Director of Planning and Development in the event of his/her absence.

- Responds to questions, concerns and/or complaints from public officials and citizens.

- Represents the department at meetings and conferences.
- Participates as a member of a variety of professional and regional planning and organizations.

REQUIRED TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field, supplemented by a minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years’ experience required; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.
