The Admission Director is responsible for managing and coordinating the admissions process for the nursing home. This includes evaluating prospective residents, liaising with referral sources, managing occupancy levels, and ensuring a smooth transition for new residents and their families. The role requires excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to promote the facility’s services and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
EssentialJob Duties & Responsibilities
Admissions Coordination:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the admissions process.
- Review and assess referrals for medical, financial, and psychosocial appropriateness.
- Coordinate pre‑admission assessments and approvals.
- Facilitate resident admissions and ensure all necessary documentation is completed.
Relationship Management:
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with hospitals, physicians, discharge planners, social workers, and other referral sources.
- Represent the facility at community and professional events to promote services.
- Serve as a liaison for incoming residents and their families to answer questions and provide facility tours.
Marketing and Census Development:
- Work with the marketing team to develop and implement strategies to maintain and improve census goals.
- Monitor and report census data, admissions trends, and marketing activities to the Administrator.
- Promote the nursing home through outreach and networking activities.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Ensure all admission documentation is accurate and completed in compliance with federal, state, and facility policies.
- Maintain up‑to‑date admission records and logs.
- Coordinate with finance and billing departments to verify insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid eligibility.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure smooth admissions and continuity of care.
- Participate in daily or weekly census and discharge planning meetings.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, social work, or related field preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 2‑3 years of experience in healthcare admissions, preferably in a long‑term care or skilled nursing facility.
- Experience with Medicare/Medicaid and insurance verification is strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and admission procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily works in an office setting within the facility.
- Occasional travel to hospitals and referral sources may be required.
- Must be able to work occasional evenings or weekends depending on admissions needs.
