Essential Job Functions

A&P Mechanic>
An A&P certified mechanic is responsible for ensuring the aircraft are maintained in accordance with applicable Maintenance Manuals, Federal Aviation Regulations, Service Bulletins, & Airworthiness Directives. Have thorough knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, Aircraft Maintenance Manuals, Safety Regulations (both Federal and State), and current Industry Standards. Perform Scheduled/Unscheduled Inspections, Repair, & Troubleshooting on Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Drivetrain, Electrical & Structures systems.

Ordering appropriate aircraft parts and consumables while maintaining current inventory. Ensuring replacement parts are airworthy prior to installation according to manufacturer documents and have correct FAA airworthiness paperwork.

Inspection Authorization: An IA may inspect and approve for return to service any aircraft or related part or appliance after a major repair or major alteration. Also, the holder of an IA may perform an annual inspection and he or she may supervise or perform a progressive inspection.

Pilot: Perform Maintenance troubleshooting and Return to Service ground-runs and flights according to applicable aircraft ratings. As necessary perform functions of a Tactical Flight Officer during Helicopter Operations.

Additional Duties: Keep the Hangar maintained by regular cleaning and performing appropriate facility maintenance. Perform Maintenance on aircraft Ground Support Equipment Perform grounds keeping as necessary. Provide assistance to SWAT Dept. by assisting with MRAP Maintenance as needed.

Education & Experience

High School diploma or GED; advanced technical skills and knowledge obtained by specialized training, formal education and /or extensive on the job training in aviation and mechanics.

Specialized Requirements

Applicable Pilot’s Certificate, FAA Airframe and Power Plant certificate, FAA inspection authorization, Valid Texas Drivers License

Equipment Used

Office equipment, precision calibrated tools, specialty tools related aircraft, basic hand tools, electrical diagnostic tools, and other related aircraft maintenance tools.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to read and understand specific guidelines; effective verbal and written communication skills; good interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively with all levels of employees, county officials, contractors, vendors, and suppliers, problem solving skills, advanced knowledge of federal aviation regulations and state and federal safety procedures.

Work Situations/Demands/Efforts

Work requires organizing; prioritizing; accuracy; attention to detail; working individually and as part of a group; flexibility in order to perform and coordinate a variety of duties; performing routine, repetitive duties. Dealing with unexpected and/or emergency situations; driving a vehicle (truck); operating machinery; possible irregular hours; occasional out-of-town travel to attend schools and educational seminars. Employee works independently; requires assistance only with solving unusual non-routine problems.

Working

Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a semi-climate controlled aircraft hangar. Employee may be subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions; noise and vibrations; machinery and equipment with moving parts; adverse atmospheric conditions from dust, fumes, chemicals, paint, etc.

Physical Requirements

Job duties require regular walking and standing; working with tools, electrical equipment, machinery; climbing ladders.. Duties also require heavy work such as moving objects weighing 50 lbs or more. Appropriate safety precautions must be observed.
